The sea is warm and crystal-clear. The coast of Murcia is known as the 'Costa Cálida' - the Warm Coast, which allows for sea bathing throughout most of the year. The richness of marine life is enormously diverse and was well known to both Roman and Phoenician settlers to the area. Águilas is nationally famous as a fishing resort and internationally recognised for its underwater and scuba diving due to the 'treasures' to be found on the sea bed.
